Re: Number of Bots Allowed

Well.. First of all I am not aware of any limitation regarding number of remote bots implemented in GB. That means that only problem you could have is caused by UT engine itself - that means if you want more bots, just use some map, that has appropriete maximum limit of players (CTF or Onslaught maps are bigger, you can use them even if you will select BotDeathMatch gametype - just start the server from console. example F:\Hry\UT2004\System\UCC.exe server CTF-FaceClassic?game=GameBotsNew.BotDeathMatch)

Secondly. There is another problem connected with max. number of remote bots. The number for original GB (UT99) was just theoretical. Due to costy repetitive testing of what the bots acctualy can see and due to costy constructing of long text messages to export the information, old GB were able to handle 8 bots max on a normal machine. Our GB are a little bit more optimized - we reduced number of concatenations in the construction of text messages significantly - that boosted performance, but still I doubt you will be able to run more then 16 bots with synchronous messages on on a normal computer. But it is true that there wasn't any serious testing of currect GB upper limit, I would be interested in this myself.
Some tricks to boots performance - you can increse vision time from 250 ms to 500 ms or higher - or even turn off all sync. messages. Also I am thinking about creating some low weight GB without sync. messages that would still provide at least some basic information about the environment - that would be aimed on having more bots online in the game at the same time. (I hope I will be able to hit the UT limit).
